Please meet Mr. Michael Garrison – the most recent member of the AARP Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) to come on board. Byrd Barr Place has long since partnered with AARP to support our Food Market operations, and while we had to take a hiatus during the height of the pandemic, we are grateful to have vaccinated and boosted AARP team members join us again. SCSEP matches eligible older job seekers with local nonprofits and public agencies, it is the nation’s oldest program to help low-income, unemployed individuals aged 55+ find meaningful work.

Mr. Garrison is a bright and productive light on our Food Market team, he has a warm disposition and gets along smashingly with everyone. He says his favorite part about the work is connecting with diverse people and seeing the immediate impact that providing healthy and delicious food has for each person he meets. He goes out of his way to make sure we are meeting every need possible when someone walks through our doors.

Mr. Garrison has computer science degree from South Seattle Community College and before moving to Seattle was an Air Force maintenance mechanic in Langley, Virginia. Born in Louisiana, he has been settled in the Emerald City for over three decades. Outside of his service in the Food Market Mr. Garrison enjoys a lively afternoon at the horse track. If you would like to join Mr. Garrison in this gratifying work at the Byrd Barr Place Food Market you can fill out a volunteer application online!
