As we close out this remarkable year, Byrd Barr Place will close its doors for the holiday season. This decision is intentional, rooted in our commitment to the well-being of the incredible staff who power our mission. Rest is essential, not only for the individuals on our team but for the greater work we do together. Our efforts to serve the Black community and create spaces of safety, dignity, and opportunity require sustained energy and passion, and that starts with allowing time to recharge.

This year marked our 60th anniversary—a milestone that gave us space to reflect on our history, celebrate our achievements, and envision the future of Byrd Barr Place. We are deeply grateful for the successes we’ve shared this year, from expanding our services to supporting our neighbors in new and meaningful ways. Each accomplishment was made possible by the dedication of our staff, the trust of the community, and the partnerships of those who share our vision for an equitable and thriving Central District.

As we pause for this holiday season, I encourage us all to consider the gift of rest—not as a luxury, but as a necessity. Rest fuels resilience, inspires creativity, and sustains the heart of our work. For our team, this time off is a well-deserved recognition of their commitment to advancing equity, lifting up the voices of those most marginalized, and ensuring that Byrd Barr Place remains a pillar of the community.

Looking ahead to the new year, I am filled with excitement and hope. We are preparing to implement new programs and services that will deepen our impact and solidify Byrd Barr Place as the safe, welcoming space it has always been. From launching innovative initiatives to further economic stability in the Black community to ensuring our services reflect the evolving needs of our neighbors, we are ready to continue building upon the foundation of the past six decades.

To our community: please know that Byrd Barr Place is, and always will be, your place. A place to find support, to celebrate culture, and to strengthen the bonds that connect us. Together, we are creating a future where every person has the opportunity to thrive.

As we take this time to rest, we carry immense gratitude for each of you who make this work possible. Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and your belief in our shared vision. May this holiday season bring you moments of peace, joy, and connection. We look forward to welcoming you back in the new year, rested and ready to continue this important work.
