As the impacts of COVID-19 continue to escalate, we are updating you on how we are approaching this pandemic and the resources we can provide. Byrd Barr Place is open and will remain open as defined under Federal and State regulations as “essential” in the Community-Based category for economically disadvantaged or otherwise needy individuals relying on food, shelter, and social services. Visit our Contact page for our latest hours of operation.
We continue to place human health and safety first, as we always have since our founding in 1964. During this time, we are guided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations for appropriate procedures for our staff, clients and everyone we interact with. We are practicing careful social distancing, and provide thorough sanitization throughout each day at both the personal and facility level to keep everyone as safe as possible. If you are sick, or have symptoms of illness, please stay home. We will gladly work with you as best we can via phone and online.
We remain committed to providing services to people in need with some minor alterations:
Food Bank: We’ve shifted our Food Bank from the client-choice model to the grab-and-go model to minimize the handling of food. We have two types of bags, standard type and non-cook type for those without kitchens. Our home delivery service has been expanded to accommodate vulnerable people such as the elderly and those who are high risk or have compromised immune systems.
Energy and Rental Assistance: You are encouraged to apply online for energy and rental assistance, but walk-ins and phone appointments are allowed. Please call 206.812.4940 during business hours Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm for any assistance needed.
Once again, we wish to assure you that we are deeply and personally committed to the well-being of our community, and to fulfilling our promise to be here in your time of greatest need.
With sincere wishes for health and safety to all,
Byrd Barr Place Team
